Amazing Race:
Teams of 2 challenged to go around the world in 23 days. There are several challenges: eating things, swimming, or other athletic/topical things.

- Roadblock are when team members choose between 2 different activities
- Detours are when each team member must do the activities
Kathy will build the game and challenges around the teams and people who are signed up. One that all must do, two that each person must choose one of them, and then one that an older team member might do and one that a younger team member that might do. People who weren't involved in it could watch it, or help Kathy coordinate the event.
Kinney Family Amazing Race: Sign up now to be a part of this crazy-fun morning of challenges. The event will be based on the TV show, which becomes a sort of scavenger-hunt/relay race/competition. As you (individually) sign up, you'll be placed on a team. Your team will be given clues and tasks (some physical, some mental, some both) to complete before you head for the finish line. Individuals 7 years and up are encouraged to register via email to kathyhahn@earthlink.net. If you're not part of a team, you might be asked to help run a station. :)Web-cam:
How to do the activity surrounding the call. Maybe schedule an hour or so for this, using a 'family oral tradition' format, with various people share stories, and try and have those on the web answer calls. Maybe do 3-minute 'spotlight' on various people or events, holidays, or places (French St, Bath house, Church, upper camp).Talent Show:
The talent show will be held at the Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, on Thursday, August 6th. We will be using the fellowship hall of the church. They have a piano, tables and chairs. The floor has industrial-type carpet. There is an attached kitchen (full kitchen, with utensils, plates, cups, but no pots/pans) which we will be free to use. They will be sending me the usage agreement (we need to clean up after) and it will cost $25. The talent show will be for just our family, with no outside congregation members invited.Auction:
Nancy will run the auction. Kid items will use play money. Adult items-have people not spend too much money on their auction items. Nancy will send out letters/emails to get out to people. Money will go to cover the kid items and any committee expenses (postage, dvd costs). Will need to find another auctioneer.T-shirts:
T-Shirt Entry deadline: Postmark by June 30, 2009; e-mail by July 8, 2009.Linley has sent out an email announcing the contest for a t-shirt design.

New Idea:
Maybe do a photo/video collage with talent show audio track. Dawn will be on point for video collage to be put together following the reunion.Family Orchestra
Linley Baker has suggested we have an orchestra activity for the young ones. She writes that she remembers at the last reunion, thinking that it might be nice to do the next time. She says, Forrest has kids with violin/viola, I have violins/flute, & last I heard, Kathy's kids played as well. We might be able to get a piano into the orchestra, too (Chandra's/Forrest's). Maybe there are some other kids who are music students as well? Kathy mentions that Wesley plays violin and Aspen plays piano. The idea would be to keep it short and fun.Logistics:
Grace will put together directory/welcome packets. Robin has done a complete job of scoping out a safety plan.
Service:
Maybe doing an event that might be like a service project. Not enough people have really gotten things together to plan a complete second service project.Outreach:
Mark H and Bill will work together to set up a web cam and a conference call. The Inn does have wi-fi. Probably 40-44 people planning to attend now.Our Chosen Site for August 5 - 9, 2009
We’re excited!! Your reunion committee has been busy for some time now trying to find the best location that we can to hold the 2009 Kinney Family Reunion. We think we have found it. We have finally settled on Leavenworth, Washington. The sites we are going to use to host the event will be the Leavenworth KOA and the Alpine Rivers Inn. What we found in our extensive search was that no one facility adequately met the needs and priorities that family members had expressed. The two sites are approximately 1 mile apart (though they are actually almost directly across the Wenatchee River from each other!). Using the combination of sites we will have access to a variety of styles of lodging that we think should meet everyone’s needs. The Alpine Rivers Inn
The Alpine Rivers Inn, is a small hotel (27 rooms). There are 4 kitchenette units (sleeps 6 with refrigerator, stove top, pots/pans, dishware, microwave), one King Suite (sleeps 6), and then standard 1 and 2 bed guest rooms. The hotel offers complimentary hot breakfast daily and a pass to their 9-hole golf course. On-site they have a pool, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and meeting room. We will be able to use all of these resources for our activities. In an email in July 2009, Carol at Alpine Rivers Inn said,
Hello, From Alpine Rivers Inn:We have great drinking water but do not have any water coolers (Dawn had asked about this for the planning committee). We have coffee service and can provide Ice Tea as well. You may have anything sent to the hotel for your group, we will take good care of it until your arrival. We will provide you with information on everything that is going on in town. If you go to leavenworth.org they have a calendar of events on their website that is very informative.
You have currently reserved 3 kitchenettes, which have 2 queen beds and a queen sleeper sofa, 2 rooms with 1 queen bed and 7 rooms with 2 queen beds. The release date for the rest of your rooms is July 7th. There are 4 unused rooms, 1 kitchenette, 1 king room with queen sleeper sofa and 2 rooms with 1 queen bed in them. We are looking forward to your stay with us. If you have any more questions please let us know.Sincerely,
Carol
The Leavenworth KOA
The Leavenworth, KOA is a large site. They have a variety of lodging available including tent sites, RV sites, cabins, lodges and deluxe lodges (some of which will sleep 6 and have minimal kitchen facilities). They have a beach on the river, offer breakfast for minimal fee, have 2 large pavilions with gas barbecues, free shuttle to Leavenworth and a variety of activities on-site: pool, hot-tub, volleyball/basketball, horseshoes, outdoor movies, playground, rental bikes, craft activities, hayrides, and Espresso Cabin selling ice cream, pizza and coffee.
The city of Leavenworth, WA has been visited by Forrest, Larae, Robin, Steve and Grace. All appear to have enjoyed the town and what it offers. It is a small town built to resemble a Bavarian Village. There are a large variety of arts and crafts, stores and musical activities, as well as easy access to hiking, and mountain biking trails. Rafting and horseback riding are also available in the area.Back to Top
Travel Information
Dawn Kinney-Miller of the planning committee has pulled together information about getting to and from Seattle to Leavenworth. In a nut shell, what I have found is that the shuttle would be quite expensive ($100 per person, per trip) even if we had a group (the bigger the group, the more expensive the vehicle to carry them). I was able to rent a car at Priceline where I bid and got one for $30 a day (much better than any other site I found and a top-line company). I can work to assist you, or you can make your own plans, you just need to let me know.
The Amtrack shuttle bus $30 each way from a Seattle Amtrack station to Leavenworth, but you'd need to check the schedule and get from SeaTac to the Amtrack. Mark checked the schedule and there are two buses, an 8:50 am, which arrives at 12:20 pm, and a 4:15 pm, arrives at 7:10 pm. Price is $24 one way; $48 round trip. Seniors price is $$39.10 round trip, or $20 one way. Public transportation using King County Metro looks like it leaves about every 20-30 minutes from Seatac to within .2 miles (a block or so) from Amtrak station (303 S Jackson St). That fare is about $1.75. Metro website (wonderful trip planner function) is: http://transit.metrokc.gov/ so anyone can calculate day/time to confirm schedules. If anyone would like Dawn's assistance to look into anything more completely, let her know and she'll see what she can do. To do this, she would need the number of people and the times of your arrival and departures.
